Gangster Parties, Eurovision and Fanzines

Gangster Parties, Eurovision and Fanzines

16/05/2007
After a surreal party on Saturday night... It had a Gangster theme, Gangster rap... All police tape, chalked murder scene markings, fake money and loud tracksuits. Then on Sunday after a very long walk and a visit to the national gallery I toddled along to a bar to watch Eurovision. I didn't think Australians had such an interest and knowledge of European politics, which is basically what Eurovision has become. Currently Overseas students comprise approximately 17% of the Australi...

I finally got my fist experience(s) of Australian festivals this summer, albeit a gentle one-day only festival introduction and I hate to say I wasn't greatly impressed. Whilst most of my festival encounters were a couple of years ago and who knows what might have changed since then I have been to festivals all over Europe so have a fair amount of experience in the matter, from a performer, staff and punter's perspective. My biggest problem with Australian festivals (and this based purely on m...

Observations on Albania and Australia in Eurovision

20/05/2016
Last weekend I was back in Tirana for my second OSCAL, an awesome little open source conference that has a massively diverse audience and punches well above it's weight. Whilst in Albania I was conducting some interviews and research for a forthcoming article on the Albanian (likely also including Kosovo) startup and tech scene(s), but more of that later. When I visited Albania last year it was my first trip to a Balkan country and since then I have visited Serbia (twice) and Croatia. Last year,...
